Inside Pearson Online Academy
“Who sets my child's daily schedule?” “Do I have to plan lessons or teach a class?” “How much time will my child spend on the computer?”
You’ll most likely ask these questions as you begin to consider online schooling for your child. At Pearson Online Academy UK Global, understanding the evolving roles that parents, online students and teachers each play in our virtual school will help you get all the answers you need!
Student
Pearson Online Academy UK Global is designed to help students with diverse abilities and backgrounds thrive. Our individualised instructional approach can be a great choice for students who would benefit from more scheduling flexibility to accommodate activities such as sports and family time.
It’s also a good online school for students who prefer learning in the comfort of their home or anywhere that there is an Internet connection, are seeking a challenging curriculum, or would like a wide range of courses and electives.
Online students start to really take charge of their education and student responsibility by setting goals, working independently and exploring their future career and university options.
Students take more responsibility for their own academic success as they:
- Spend a minimum of 30 hours per week on schoolwork.
- Continue to rely on personalised student planners for organisation and task management.
- Learn primarily online.
Parent
One of the hallmarks of Pearson Online Academy UK Global’s virtual school programme is parental involvement. The involvement of a parent (or other trusted adult) in learning activities shows children that education is a top priority and helps ensure their success. There are proven benefits to this level of parent involvement in education, such as improved grades and test scores, higher attainment and achievement rates, and greater enrolment in post-secondary education.
Success Coach
Students at Pearson Online Academy UK Global each have a Success Coach and receive carefully tailored career planning and expert coaching on university selection. Students are supported to help them achieve to their very highest potential: The Success Coach aims to develop in them the skills and mindset required for success, both at our school and beyond. The Success Coach works with students to develop their academic, personal and social skills, through one-to-one coaching sessions and small group workshops specifically tailored to our students’ needs. Careful guidance is provided to students on how to become effective, independent learners.
The Success Coach works not just with our students, but also with their parents and mentors, to support them as they progress. Our teachers ensure open channels of communication with parents and mentors regarding any academic issues, and the Success Coach is the first point of contact for any pastoral or non-academic issues. Whether helping students with test preparation, university applications or mock interviews, the Success Coach gives their students the best possible support – setting them up for success.
The Success Coach also works diligently to promote students’ social, moral and cultural development. While academic studies may take the lead, a key part of the Success Coach’s role is to encourage students to participate in a range of extra-curricular activities. Students are encouraged to cultivate their own passions outside academia, as well as developing new and healthy interests, providing multiple opportunities to build relationships with their peers and fellow students.

The Teacher’s Role
The talented teachers at Pearson Online Academy UK Global are certified, highly qualified professionals committed to each student’s success. They are experts in their fields and year groups and receive ongoing training in the most engaging and effective online instruction practices. Leading the virtual classroom with customised learning, our teachers help students around the world and across all year groups achieve their potential.
Pearson Online Academy UK Global teachers create the lively personal interactions of a traditional classroom in an online setting. In a LiveLesson session, teachers explain or demonstrate new concepts, lead discussions, write on a whiteboard, and show videos or other visuals. They can also create virtual 'breakout' rooms where classmates can meet to collaborate on group projects.
Individualised Instruction Programme
Students learn best when lessons match their interests and abilities. The mission of Pearson Online Academy UK Global is to help each student maximise his or her potential and meet the highest performance standards through a uniquely customised learning programme.
Each full-time student receives individualised instruction, including lessons tailored to that student’s academic strengths and weaknesses. This is the Personalised Performance Learning® (PPL) approach – a dynamic process that begins by evaluating each student’s strengths and needs. Teachers and Success Coaches are then able to develop focused, customised approaches that work for the student along with the curriculum – all year long.
Timely Intervention
When help is needed, a teacher may modify instruction or lessons, provide meaningful ways to practise skills and offer helpful resources. They may arrange to work with a student in a small group or even one-on-one. This personal attention empowers students to do their best and to achieve their goals.
Collaborating to Provide Even Greater Support
