Meet the Team - Michael Dunn

Michael Dunn teaches International GCSE Business and A Level Economics for Pearson Online Academy UK Global. Here he explains his passion for remote learning and shares how he plans to inspire students with fun. 

 

Why I joined Pearson Online Academy UK Global 

I joined Pearson Online Academy UK Global because it gives me an extremely exciting opportunity to work within a unique online school – part of a renowned organisation which, as an educator, I have worked with indirectly for the past 20 years.  

The organisation shares my passion for innovation, and devotion towards developing teaching and learning ideas, embracing the latest technological developments. Technology has changed our world and I believe that education, at times, has been slow to react. Schools like Pearson Online Academy will delve outside the rigidity of traditional schooling and embrace the flexibility that benefits students and teachers.   

 

What I’m most looking forward to about teaching in the school 

I am really looking forward to working with a diverse range of students spanning the globe and developing my understanding of other cultures and ways of life. I look forward to watching my students develop, grow and achieve their potential in a unique forward-thinking environment, too. Having taught remotely since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, I have seen the potential that flexible teaching approaches can offer, and how this can benefit the whole school population.   

 

The challenges I’m excited to overcome at Pearson Online Academy UK Global 

I am excited by the challenge of being actively involved in the setup of a brand new school that will be leading the way for many years to come. I particularly want to focus on tackling any sense of isolation that students expect to experience while learning remotely. I’ll be directing my attention on building strong, lasting and meaningful relationships with my students, in which they are comforted by the knowledge that not only am I there for them, but that every student in their class is part of a community. We are in this together.  

I also expect to encounter a lack of motivation at some points, although I have been glad to see how well-received my resources have been so far. I will be stretching and challenging my students in a subject that, fortunately, lends itself well to exciting and interesting content. 

 

If I could tell students thinking about joining the school just one thing, it would be… 

All I can be certain of is that which I can control. I can assure anybody who studies Business and/or Economics with me that they will learn so much in an environment that is highly challenging and interesting; it will not even feel like learning! You will have so much fun as you develop, becoming the entrepreneurs and business leaders of the future.
